Something that I used to do on a very regular basis, was stream on Twitch. I’ve kept my name AndyPandyTV because of all the nostalgia it brings me. I played video games my whole life, but when I became a streamer, I turned it into more than just a hobby. The term “transferable skills” is used a lot in the professional world, and honestly, that’s just what I got.
Building a Brand
The first thing you do when you start taking streaming seriously, is create a brand. Who do you want to be? What are your goals? What is going to be your focus? These questions relate to more than just aspiring streamers. They work for start up business owners as well. I never did clearly define a “focus” so to speak, but that doesn’t mean I didn’t know the importance of it.
For instance, one of my clients is a SoCal solar panel installation company. At face value, you might wonder how I could apply any of my “transferable skills” to such a specific kind of brand. What makes them the perfect client for me is that they had to re-brand. Change their business name, get a new website, new social media accounts, everything had to start from the ground up. I’ve been through that before.
When I first started streaming, I worked with my brother under the alias “BSStreamTeam” (Brother-Sister Stream Team, not the other kind of BS). Working with family is tough, and things just didn’t pan out. So I had to start over. I lost thousands of followers in the process and it was tough to not lose focus. But I did it! I created AndyPandyTV!
My work with this solar company and my own experience go together quite well. The first thing my team and I did for them was create a new website and social media accounts. We learned everything we could about their demographic and their business. We write blog posts and boost Facebook posts, the works!
When I went through a re-brand, I did a lot of the same stuff. Most notably is social media.
Social Media Management
Social media is an important marketing tool in creating brand awareness. Having cross-media consistency is key in search-engine optimization. I learned that very quickly with streaming. You want people to be able to find you the easiest way possible. They should be able to type your name into a search bar for Twitter, Facebook, etc and be able to find you no problem!
In my position as account manager for this solar company, this practice was just as important. We started from the ground up with a website and social media pages on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Yelp, YouTube, all the things. Not only did I already understand the importance of the SEO, but I also understood demographics.
I knew that Facebook was not ever going to work for my stream. Moms use Facebook, not nerds. Twitter was and always will be my social media of choice for my personal brand because it fits my personal demographic. The solar company on the other-hand, is the exact opposite.
